Deborah Lipstadt, PhD

Deborah E. Lipstadt, PhD, is Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta. She is the author of many books related to the Holocaust, including History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier (Ecco/HarperCollins, 2006) and Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory (Free Press/Macmillan, 1993). Her latest book, The Eichmann Trial (Schocken 2011), published in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the trial, was called by Publisher’s Weekly, “a penetrating and authoritative dissection of a landmark case and its after effects.”

Dr. Lipstadt was appointed by Presidents Clinton and Obama to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, President George W. Bush asked her to represent the White House at the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, and she advised former Secretary of State Madeline Albright on matters of religious freedom abroad. In addition to her civic duties, at Emory she directs the Holocaust Denial on Trial website, which contains answers to frequent claims made by Holocaust deniers.

Reflecting on her relationship with the Auschwitz Institute, Dr. Lipstadt said:

Having watched AIPG grow from a concept to an important voice in the study and prevention of genocide, I have become a great fan of its work. I have been greatly impressed by the way in which the Auschwitz Institute reaches out to people in every corner of the globe who are involved in the study, tracking, and prevention of atrocities and genocide. The reach of AIPG is truly noteworthy. In this day and age, when ‘never again’ is really ‘again and again,’ the work of the Institute is even more important than when the concept was first born.
