Twenty – Seventh Anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide
On this day, the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) marks the twenty-seventh anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide. The United Nations has described it as ‘the worst atrocity crime on European soil since the Second World War.’
In 1992, the Bosnian War erupted between three ethnic factions: Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks), Bosnian Serbs, and Croats. Facilitated by a declaration of independence by Bosnia and Herzegovina, which effectively ended the state of Yugoslavia, the ensuing conflict left over 100,000 people dead before a peace deal was brokered in 1995.

Online Course on LGBTI Rights from a Prevention Perspective
From November 16 through December 12 of 2020, the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and other Mass Atrocities organized the second edition of its online course entitled “LGBTI Rights from a Prevention Perspective.” Organized specifically for a Latin American audience, the course welcomed the participation of 20 attendees from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, and Uruguay. The curriculum was designed by AIPG alumnus and instructor Mauricio Coitiño, a public policy specialist and one of the founding members of Ovejas Negras (Black Sheep), the largest LGBTI activist organization in his home country of Uruguay, which is positioned among the regional leaders for LGBTI protections.

AIPR Conducts Training Seminar with Kenyan National Committee
NAIROBI, KENYA – The Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, in collaboration with the Kenyan National Committee for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention, conducted a training seminar for members of the Committee in Nairobi, Kenya between July 29 and 31, 2015. The training was dedicated to the memory of Ms. Joan Namazzi Kagezi, who was murdered by unknown assailants on March 30, 2015. She served as Senior State Attorney at the Ministry of Justice of Uganda and was an alumna of AIPR’s Raphael Lemkin Seminar. Ms. Kagezi fought tirelessly against genocide, war crimes, human trafficking, terrorism, and crimes against humanity.
The opening ceremony of the training featured the participation of was graced by the presence of the Argentine Ambassador, Bibiana Jones, as well as a representative from USAID in Kenya.

AIPR Honors the 20th Anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide
Twenty years have passed since the atrocities committed in July of 1995 in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, during which over 8,000 Bosniaks lost their lives in ethnic violence. August 10, 2009, New York – The Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) today signed an agreement with the German government allocating German funds to pay for two officials from developing countries to take part in one of the AIPR’s 2009 Raphael Lemkin Seminars for the Prevention of Genocide.
