AIPG and Carabineros of Chile Cooperation Agreement

On March 23, 2022, the Latin America Program (LAP) of the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) and the Carabineros of Chile signed a Cooperation Agreement in Santiago, Chile to deepen their institutional and working relationship in the field of genocide and mass atrocity prevention. This agreement commits both organizations to spearheading trainings and research to identify and mitigate atrocity risk factors. 

Director-General of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez Reveco, and María Eugenia Carbone, Director of the Latin America Program were charged with signing the document. The event included a working meeting coordinated by General Karina Soza, Director of Human Rights and Family Protection of Carabineros, as well as officers from relevant regions. During the meeting, they reviewed the priorities of the agreement and possible lines of action for the implementation of training programs and the development of prevention investigations. 

Ricardo Yáñez Reveco, the Director General of Carabineros commented on the agreement:

The signing of this agreement is another step that reaffirms the genuine interest in deepening the human rights approach in the various functions involved in police work … and which is a central part of the reform and modernization process that is being carried out.
